No Bull Burgers

9 Jul

We have been wanting to get our hands on a package of No Bull Burgers for EVER. We tried ordering them online and shipping them to us but that would have cost us an additional $20! Craziness. We were not doing that. Then we tried to find them in our area, but we found out that they are only made and sold locally in Virginia. So once again, out of luck.

However, some of our dad’s family lives in Virginia and we knew we were all getting together in Pennsylvania for the 4th of July. So, we texted our Aunt and asked her if she would search around her local Whole Foods and health stores to try and find us a package or two! Luckily, she was able to hunt them down and find them in a Whole Foods store near her! Woo-hoo! We were so excited to finally try one of these burgers that so many people have been raving about. We were really hoping that we would not end up disappointed and unimpressed by these burgers.

So what did we think of No Bull Burgers? As most of you know, we are huge fans of veggie burgers. We have tried TONS of different veggie burgers and they are always one of our quick go-to meals because they can always keep us full and satisfied for hours.

Previously, we have tried varieties including Morningstar’s Black Bean Burgers, Don Lee Farm’s fresh veggie patties, our own Lentil Vegetable Burgers, and a lot of different varieties of homemade bean burgers. Our favorite patties are fresh, flavorful, and full of ingredients that we can recognize!

The Pro’s: they do not fall apart on the grill, they are full of flavor, the ingredients are recognizable and can be seen throughout the patty, the cooking time is minimal, and they are delicious!

The Con’s: they are only found local and once we get through our two packages we are out of luck until we make another trip to Virginia!

These No Bull Burgers are definitely at the top of our favorites list. We love them, and are planning to have them over a salad later this week!

Have you ever tried No Bull Burgers?

Hemp Seeds

25 Apr

We’ve been hearing a lot about Hemp Seeds lately.

We’ve seen them all over pinterest in recipes like this mango banana hemp seed smoothie.

And we were curious, real curious, with rockin’ nutritional stats of 170 calories and 10 grams of protein for 3 tablespoons!

We were a little disappointed to find out that they were a tad bit pricey.

But then we were wondering through the aisles of Cosco the over day and discovered a HUGE 28 oz. bag for only $14, and we were sold.

20130424-162315.jpg
Lately we’ve been using them in so many recipes to add extra protein. They are perfect the perfect topping for….

Yogurt Parfaits.

Oatmeal.

20130423-092149.jpg

And Smoothies.

20130424-161344.jpg
And we are in LOVE. We’ve also been sprinkling these on our daily salads to add extra protein. Next time you’re at Cosco keep your eyes peeled for these babies. You definitely won’t be disappointed in this purchase!

We’d love to know, what’s your favorite item to purchase in bulk at Cosco or Sam’s Club?

Udi’s Cranberry Granola. You really cannot go wrong with a description entailing clusters of oats, walnuts, and dried cranberries
20130328-143548.jpg
Organic Girl Super Greens. These have been the base for the majority of our salads recently. Although we love our spinach it is always nice to switch it up every once in a while for a little variety.
20130328-143554.jpg
Rasberry-Lime Hint Water. We’ve tried this flavor and blackberry so far. They are the perfect combination of water and fruit without being too overpowering. Kayla is not a fan of fizzy drinks so finding flavored waters without fizz is a major plus!
20130328-143611.jpg
Farmers Market Organic Pumpkin. Does this even need an explanation? It is perfect on everything and anything.
20130328-143630.jpg
Kaya Organic Sprouted Sunflower Seeds. These are perfect thrown on top of yogurt or oatmeal for an extra crunch factor!
20130328-143656.jpg

Organic Flax Paks. These are seriously perfect for traveling and breakfast on the go.

20130328-143716.jpg
Vino de Milo Sun-Dried Tomato Dressing. We think this dressing taste exactly the same as the Whole Foods brand. Since the nearest Whole Foods is over an hour away we’ve decided this will justify in its place.

Next time you’re at the grocery store and you come across any of these products we definitely recommend them! We love trying new food products. Isn’t it just so much fun? Have you found any new products lately? Please share 🙂

February Favorites

5 Mar

Trying new things is fun. We have to admit, when walking around the grocery store we are always pointing out new products, flavors, and brands we wanna try. We would buy every new product we were interested in trying but our pantry is already stocked enough. You should see it. If there was ever a flood, hurricane, or problem where we were trapped inside our house for a few weeks we wouldn’t go hungry. We may however go crazy without our fresh produce. Nevertheless, we would survive.

Regardless of the natural disaster, we love to hear others share their favorite products. This way we know what is worth trying or what was absolutely without a doubt disgusting and not worth our time or money. So through the month of February we have found a few new products worth sharing with y’all. Some are classic favorites while others are recent finds.

No particular order regarding the list just incase you were curious.

1. Oikos Plain Greek Yogurt

oikos

We recently have become addicted to the taste of the unsweetened, origional flavored greek yogurt. Oiko’s was on sale, and a few containers worth later we were in love. It has the perfect biter taste of plain greek yogurt without being too extreme. We find ourselves using it in greek yogurt parfaits, mixed into oatmeal, on top of salads, etc.

2. Trader Joe’s Multigrain Bread

20130304-154324.jpg
We buy this whenever we get into a Trader Joe’s. This fresh bread is delicious and goes great on top of salads, with PB & Sunbutter, for sandwiches, etc. Hands down our favorite fresh baked bread we have tried to date.

3. Almond Breeze Unsweetened Almond Milk

20130304-154402.jpg
We have tried a lot of different almond milks. The list goes on forever with brands including Pacific Foods, Silk, Trader Joe’s but we really like the flavor of the unsweetened Almond Breeze. With 40 calories a cup it’s perfect for smoothies, oatmeal, recipes that call for skim milk, and with cereal.

4. Castello Blue Cheese

20130304-154700.jpg
Before this month we never had blue cheese before. We wanted to expand our wings and try a new type of cheese and this looked interesting at the store. It is perfect for on top of salads. That is really what we have been using it for. It has a strong flavor so we find ourselves only putting a small amount on our salads but it has a great flavor and we would definitely purchase it again.

5. Nestle Sugar-free Peppermint Coffee Creamer

20130304-154513.jpg
We stock up on this flavor after the holiday’s because the expiration date goes until after March. Between this and Sugar-free Pumpkin Spice creamer we don’t need any other flavors. We would like to know why they are both seasonal flavors and not offered all year long. We should write Nestle a letter..

6. Kemp’s Frozen Yogurt- Vanilla Bean
kemps
We are obsessed with frozen yogurt even in the middle of February. This brand is our go-to favorite. We like to top the vanilla bean with fresh fruit and sliced almonds.

7. Kirkland Frozen Vegetable Mix
kirkland
Recent Cosco find and probably the best value/taste of frozen vegetables we have ever found. Next time you are at your Cosco check if they have this vegetable blend in the freezer section. For around $6/bag you can’t beat it. The blend includes cauliflower, broccoli, orange baby carrots, and yellow carrots. We pair it with a lot of our meals and it is perfect for those winter months where fresh produce is rather expensive and hard to locate.

8. Trader Joe’s Sunbutter

20130304-154441.jpg
The perfect consistency of a nut butter. Drippy, smooth, and flavorful. Words cannot describe how much we love this product. Buy a jar today so you can be on the inside scoop of what we are referring to. Trust us, you will love it if you are a nut butter fan like ourselves. On toast, mixed into oatmeal, you get the idea. It’s #1 in our hearts.

9. Hulled Raw Buckwheat
buckwehat
Found within the isle of the Whole Foods bulk bins, this is a great addition to our pantry. Packed with protein and a crunchy flavor it is perfect crunch for on top of oatmeal, salads, or a soup. No cooking is even required. We recently found out that it isn’t a grain but rather a fruit seed with a nutty flavor. Try it out and let us know what you think!

10. Steaz 100% Natural Green Tea

20130304-154600.jpg
We like the idea that it is naturally sweetened and free of artificial add-ins. We have only tried the peach flavor but would love to try some of the other varieties. It can be found in many grocery stores but we have seen it for sure at Wegmans and Whole Foods.

So we would like to know now that we have shared our favorite new products, are you a creature of habit and always buying the same things at the grocery store or do you like to try new things? Also, what are your favorite products to buy at the grocery store?

Product Review: Falafel

12 Feb

The best thing about buying a product is knowing other people’s personal review on the product. That is why we love to share some of our newest food finds with you to let you know what we think of them.

The other day we came across a package of falafel mix at the grocery store. We usually like to make things from scratch but after checking the ingredients list on the back we realized we actually recognized every ingredient! Have you ever looked at an ingredient list before and not recognized over half of them? We have, so that is why we try really hard to watch ingredients because we love knowing exactly what we are putting in our bodies. We’ve come to realize that the less ingredients, the better!

DSC01687

The package directions were for fried or baked falafel. We went with the baked method because we try to avoid fried foods. Have you ever ate fried food and actually felt good after? Nope? Thats what we thought. Anyway the recipe was simple and the directions were easy to follow.

DSC01685

The package made enough falafel to be used for two separate meals for us. On monday we decided to add falafel to a spinach salad topped with fresh vegetables, the Good Bean sea salt roasted chickpeas, and homemade Taziki sauce made with greek yogurt! Since the falafel were previously baked we simply heated the patties in our toaster oven for about 6 minutes and then crumbled them on top of the salad. Such a great salad!

20130211-144044.jpg
Later this week we’re making a wrap with the rest of the falafel! We’re planning to stuff a whole wheat tortilla with grated carrot, red onion, spinach, falafel, and taziki sauce. I’m sure it will be delicious. Next time you’re grocery shopping keep your eyes out for this falafel mix! It is definitely something great to have on hand for a quick and healthy meal option!
