Hemp Seeds

25 Apr

We’ve been hearing a lot about Hemp Seeds lately.

We’ve seen them all over pinterest in recipes like this mango banana hemp seed smoothie.

And we were curious, real curious, with rockin’ nutritional stats of 170 calories and 10 grams of protein for 3 tablespoons!

We were a little disappointed to find out that they were a tad bit pricey.

But then we were wondering through the aisles of Cosco the over day and discovered a HUGE 28 oz. bag for only $14, and we were sold.

Lately we’ve been using them in so many recipes to add extra protein. They are perfect the perfect topping for….

Yogurt Parfaits.

And Smoothies.

And we are in LOVE. We’ve also been sprinkling these on our daily salads to add extra protein. Next time you’re at Cosco keep your eyes peeled for these babies. You definitely won’t be disappointed in this purchase!

We’d love to know, what’s your favorite item to purchase in bulk at Cosco or Sam’s Club?

Bolthouse Farms Chai Smoothie

19 Dec

We have a very strong love relationship with smoothies. They get us through French class, busy mornings, and any other excuse we find possible to make one. Since they are made quite frequently, we have to have a few options. This newest one we came across thanks to 50% off at Weis on the Bolthouse Farms Vanilla Chai Cafe drink. We were mindlessly browsing when we came across this deal. With 7 grams of protein per serving we couldn’t turn it down. I’m so glad we didn’t! After returning home from the store we brainstormed what we could do with this juice. We came across a recipe from one of our favorite vegan blogs! Healthy. Happy. Life. Check her page out. She has some of the coolest recipes that are so unique and flavorful, and we haven’t tried something from her page that we did not like.

Basically, she had a recipe for a mixed berry smoothie. We tweaked it based on what ingredients we had available, and made our own tasty smoothie combination!

Makes Two Servings:
1 banana (it should be frozen, but thawed works too)
1.5 cups of Bolthouse Farms Vanilla Chai
1/2 cup frozen whole strawberries
1 cup of ice (more depending on thickness preferred)
Optional:Unsweetened coconut flakes and flax seed for topping

Directions:
Put banana, juice, strawberries, and ice in blender and purée until smooth.

Pour into cup, and add desired toppings!

No shame to admit we’ve made this smoothie 3 times already. A new favorite for sure. I can’t wait to try out another one of their products. Who knows what’ll be next. They have a hazelnut latte with 10 grams of protein, and a mango protein plus smoothie with 30 grams! They also have pre-made smoothies (perfect for roads trips) and a 50/50 berry juice that looks delicious. I don’t think you can go wrong with any choice here! If anyone has had any before and can recommend a favorite, please do! Opinions are always wonderful.

A New Snack Food Find

I swear.. TJ Maxx has everything. Our newest find, dried edamame: goji blend.

Listen to the stats on these babies! A 1 oz serving has 11 grams of protein and only 120 calories! Have I mentioned they are also delicious?! It’s the perfect blend of salty and sweet and a steal at $1.50 a bag! Other flavors include wasabi and lightly salted but we have yet to try those ones. Find a bag, try them out, and let us know what you think! Hopefully we have steered you in the right direction! Let the healthy snacking begin.

Raving Over Yoplait’s Greek Froyo

16 Oct

I think it’s safe to say that no one comes close to our obsession with frozen yogurt. At one point this past summer we had 9 half gallons in our freezer.. and contemplated buying even more! When we saw Yoplait came out with a new line of frozen yogurt that was both healthy, fruity, AND high in protein we had no choice but to sample it! Our findings: HEAVENLY! Enough said.. You must test good stuff out yourselves. You will not regret it!
